The Best Sex Positions For Beginners (And Why We Love Them!)

1. Missionary

If there’s a single sex position that is perfect for beginners, it’s missionary.

This is the classic, vanilla sex position that we all know and are used to. It’s probably what most people start with.

But personally, I feel that missionary is underrated.

Missionary feels amazing for both people, but what particularly makes it special is the connection and intimacy it provides. It feels like you two are embracing in a full-body hug, and you are able to look into each other’s eyes and kiss while you make love.

The only reason you don’t see it commonly in porn is because it doesn’t show off the genitals to outsiders looking in. But if you’re the one, you know, actually having sex, it’s pretty darn good!

It also works well under the covers during winter, and makes it easier for you to grab her boobs.

That being said, it doesn’t allow for much clitoral stimulation for women, and it can cause tired arms for men if you’re holding yourself up for a long time.

2. Doggy Style

The next one everyone should try out straight away – perhaps even their first time having sex, is doggy style.

Doggy style is amazing, and I dedicated an entire article on why people love it so much.

The positioning is pretty basic and you can visually see everything as you’re doing it, which makes it perfect for beginners having sex with someone new for the first time. Believe it or not, it’s not always as easy as it looks to find the vagina and penetrate it! Being able to visually look at your penis and her vagina makes the act of getting it in a bit easier.

This is perhaps the most natural position in existence, and it’s the one we see animals doing all the time out in nature. All the man has to do is move his hips back and forth and you don’t need to worry about fumbling at all.

If you find sex uncomfortable, there are also easy ways to modify doggy style to make it more comfortable and pleasurable for the both of you – just experiment with pillows, arching, and leg positioning until you find what feels nice.

3. Cowgirl

Cowgirl is another one of the basics that everyone should try out, when they get a chance. It’s a little bit harder to pull off and probably wouldn’t be my first choice for someone having sex for the first time, but it makes for an excellent third option after trying both doggy style and missionary.

Cowgirl has the man laying down flat (or with knees bent), and the girl’s legs on the outside of his. She slides down onto his penis, and either moves up and down herself, or the man thrusts in and out of her.

Actually, this is one of the things that makes cowgirl special – the ability to trade off who is doing the movement. Either person can lay there and enjoy pure bliss while the other moves, and then they can trade off.

Then, you can stand up at the end of the bed and position your cock to thrust inside of her.

5. Spooning

Finally, my last beginner sex position would be spooning.

For this position, you’ll want to be both laying on your side, with her knees brought in slightly. Then, you enter her from behind.
